A good way of finding help is to join a local support group – West Midlands Lupus Group (WMLG) offers people living with lupus a chance to meet and share experiences with others.
WMLG holds its AGM/open meeting during March/April and an open meeting during October/November. Guest medical speakers at the open meetings are always pleased to answer questions on various aspects of lupus.
We offer telephone support from local trained WMLG Contacts.
Various fund raising and social events are held throughout the year such as concerts, coffee mornings, tombola stalls, jumble sales, dress sales etc.
WMLG/LUPUS UK sponsors the LUPUS UK Research Nurse at the Queen Elizabeth/City Hospitals, Birmingham, the LUPUS UK Specialist Nurse at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley, and established and funds the Lupus Drop-In Clinic, also at Russells Hall Hospital.
WMLG/LUPUS UK has previously sponsored a LUPUS UK Specialist Nurse (1997-2010), a Lupus Technician (1989-2010) and a Research Fellow, Renal Lupus, (2000-2002), all based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
October is Lupus Awareness Month. During Lupus Awareness Month WMLG endeavours, through TV, local radio and the press, to make the general public aware of lupus and to inform those seeking diagnosis or are newly-diagnosed that there is help and support available to them.
10th May is World Lupus Day. On World Lupus Day the WMLG as part of LUPUS UK joins with Lupus organizations throughout the world to raise the profile of Lupus. The Group makes a special effort to inform school children about lupus through special WLD bookmarks/posters.
The aim is to make the next generation Lupus-Aware.
