What We Do

The WEST MIDLANDS LUPUS GROUP holds its AGM/Open Meeting during April and an Open Meeting  during October/November.   Meetings are currently held at Warley Baptist Church Hall  (A4123 near to Junction 2, M5 motorway). Guest medical speakers at the Open Meetings are  always pleased to answer questions on various aspects of Lupus.

 

Various fund raising and social events are held throughout the year e.g. Concerts, Coffee Mornings, Tombola Stalls, Jumble Sales, Dress Sales etc.

 

The Group’s main fund raising ventures are the Celebrity Butterfly Ball and the Christmas Raffle.

 

The WEST MIDLANDS LUPUS GROUP also has 10 annually guaranteed places in the Flora London Marathon

The WEST MIDLANDS LUPUS GROUP/LUPUS UK sponsors the posts of LUPUS UK Specialist Nurse and LUPUS UK Research Assistant, both at the Queen Elizabeth/City Hospitals, Birmingham, and supports a research project via the Lupus Drop-In Clinic at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.

The WEST MIDLANDS LUPUS GROUP/LUPUS UK has previously sponsored a Lupus Technician (1989-2001) and a Research Fellow, Renal Lupus, (2000-2002),  both based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, the LUPUS UK Research Associate at Wolverhampton University and the LUPUS UK PhD student at Leicester University.  Numerous items of medical equipment have also been provided for the Queen Elizabeth/City/Selly Oak Hospitals, Birmingham, Walsgave Hospital, Coventry, Hammersmith and St. Thomas’ Hospitals, London.  Funding has also been contributed to the Wolverhampton University/LUPUS UK PhD Studentship (2003–2006).

 

OCTOBER  is  LUPUS AWARENESS MONTH During LUPUS AWARENESS MONTH the WEST MIDLANDS LUPUS GROUP endeavours, through TV, local radio and the press, to make the general public aware of Lupus and to inform those seeking diagnosis or are newly-diagnosed  that there is help and support available to them.

 

10th MAY is WORLD LUPUS DAY. On WORLD LUPUS DAY the WEST MIDLANDS LUPUS GROUP as part of LUPUS UK joins with Lupus organizations throughout the world to raise the profile of Lupus. The Group makes a special effort to inform school children about Lupus through special WLD bookmarks/posters. The aim is to make the next generation Lupus-Aware.
